Despite all the precautions, I wake up with a ghastly hangover. This is why I don’t drink (OK, don’t drink much). The unpleasant reminder is something which I seem to need to have about once a year, but I won’t dwell too much on that. Suffice it to say that the morning is a complete write-off.
Around noon, we move the boat from where it is anchored in the bay, into a slip in the marina, and get ourselves ready to go to Monica and Nick’s for their ‘Pork ‘n Pool’ get together.

Monica provides a wonderful spread for her guests. This time it is slow cooked pork which you pull off the joint and put into buns with the roast potatoes and gravy. It may sound weird but it is absolutely delicious. There are also huge steaks, fish and salad, and lots to drink. Unfortunately, I am on water and Mike is drinking his beer very slowly! In the background, Nick plays DVDs of previous years’ Poker Runs, as a way of gearing us all up for the next one which is in two weeks’ time.
Rick arrives with Lucky on his shoulder and Kim on his arm. Confused? Lucky is his African Grey parrot and Kim is his girlfriend. Lucky is very sociable most of the time (until she wants a kip) and is happy to be passed around from person to person. She likes Mike and displays her affection by leaving a little present down his back!

As the party heats up, Mike and I start to flag. By 5.30, with my hangover not showing any signs of declining, we head back down to the boat, but not before witnessing Monica cannon balling into the hot tub! The tub is full of people – how she manages to miss them is amazing! Unfortunately I’m not quick enough to get a photo.

Back at the boat, there’s one more must have photo – in the telephone booth that is now a shower at the end of the fuel dock – where else?
