It’s grey, drizzly and windy when we wake up. Mike checks the instruments and can see that the highest recorded gust in the night was 37 knots – certainly less than we were expecting.
During the morning the wind stays at around 25-30 knots with higher gusts and it rains on and off the whole time. We can see the monohulls in the anchorage rocking from side to side, all with their inhabitants sitting in the cockpits (it is probably too uncomfortable to sit below).
Mike keeps his eye on the weather radar and after lunch suddenly announces “it’s coming”. Within 10 minutes the wind and rain start in earnest. The rain absolutely throws it down and the wind stays constantly around 35 to 40 knots, gusting to 45 every now and then.
We stay hunkered down with our books, films, computers and food – comfort food at that – sausage, mash and caramelised onion gravy.
It’s good to have a day doing nothing.

Hi Mike and Jean-
ReplyDeleteI just had to post now because you are in my home town! Not sure if you will remember me, but we chartered Jeannius several years ago when we were fortunate enough to win the charity auction. Then a year later, we shared that flight with you, Jean- and forced you to have a few drinks with us on the ferry from St. Thomas! (I believe you posted pics of us all on one of the first pages of your blog).
Sounds like you aren't having great weather in Annapolis. We spend much of our summer there and keep a boat on the Severn. If you find yourself looking for some local fare, our favorite spot is the Boat Yard in Eastport- any of the water taxis can run you over. Some Wednesday nights you can find the sailors coming in there to view film of the evening's races. Now my other favorite place is Galway Bay on Maryland Avenue- a nice little walk up from the harbor. But do I dare recommend an Irish Pub to folks from the UK? Maybe it won't seem too authentic. Food is lovely though.
Anyway, I hope the weather improves and you have a nice visit in Annapolis!
