It’s another lovely day without a cloud or hint of fog – at least we will be able to spot the lobster pots on our way back to Portland!
Before we leave, Mike picks up Barry and his granddaughter, Emily, and brings them over to look at what is in Emily’s words, the ‘big boat’ – she had been asking Mike last night if she could visit. She moves cautiously around the boat, sampling the beds but pronounces that she wouldn’t like to sail on it – apparently it’s much too scary. I understand exactly how she feels!

We motor off between the pots, our journey just 35 miles or so. It’s really strange being able to see everything that we missed on the way here.

The morning which starts off hot, turns chilly in the afternoon as the clouds roll in and block the sun but at least there’s no fog. There are a lot less lobster pots but they do tend to come in clumps.
At one point Mike sees a whale but I don’t get out quickly enough with my camera to record it.
On Maggie’s recommendation, we go to Falmouth where she and Bob have their boat moored. We pick up a transient mooring (which makes me feel like a tramp) then Mike goes in the launch that they provide to go and pay. I eye the launch warily. It looks a long way down and terrifyingly like the water taxis of the Galapagos! The difference is that they come alongside rather than pointing their bows at your boat. Hopefully this will make all the difference to me – no doubt I’ll find out tomorrow when we go ashore to meet up with Maggie and Bob!
